Ixtapa is located 240 Km North of Acapulco, in the Pacific Coast. This
resort town was built in 1970. Zihuatanejo, a fisher quaint village is
only 7 km away from Ixtapa. The Zihuatanejo international airport is
15 km away from Ixtapa, or a short 20-minute drive.
Ixtapa has 2 golf courses, a marina, a commercial area, an 8-km bike
track, crossing the jungle and ending in Playa Linda. You can take a
boat and cross to the Isla Ixtapa and find snorkeling areas or enjoy a
day at the beach tasting a delicious fresh seafood lunch in the
restaurants. Ixtapa has a nice variety of international and regional
restaurants which offer excellent value and service.
Zihuatanejo best known beaches are La Ropa, La Madera and Las
Gatas. This small town has two large super markets (Bodega
Aurrerá and Comercial Mexicana) where you can find from groceries
to tools, clothes, stationery and pharmacy. Go early in the morning to
the market to get fresh fish, vegetables and fruit. Both towns have
art crafts markets where you can find ceramic, silver, and all kinds of
souvenirs.
Local buses charge $7 pesos for a ride from Ixtapa to Zihuatanejo -
which are 7 km apart. Taxis in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo charge $20 to
$25 pesos per ride and $50 pesos between the two towns. The
airport van charges $100 pesos per person for a ride to Ixtapa and
the city taxi charges $130 pesos for the taxi service from Ixtapa to
the airport.
Go to Petatlán, famous for its church and gold shops, visit the La
Soledad archaelogical site, spend a day in Barra de Potosi and enjoy
the delicious seafood. Explore Michoacán, north of the State of
Guerrero, and discover colonial Mexico, i.e.,Uruapan, Pátzcuaro and
Morelia (about 4 hours from Ixtapa)
