SPANISH IS EASY AND FUN
Mexico is a country of hard-working people. It is not unusual that
people have two jobs. But in as much as people are hard workers,
they also love and enjoy parties.
Fiestas in Mexico range from birth to death. Here are the main
fiestas:
- New born baby - baptism: El bautismo.
- Three year-old girls get presented at Church: Presentación en el
templo.
- First Communion: Primera comunión.
- 15 year-old girls have a biiiiig party (equivalent to Sweet 16): Fiesta
de quince años - la quinceañera.
- Weddings: Bodas.
- Graduations: Graduaciones.
- Birthdays: Cumpleaños.
- Name day: Día del Santo.
- National holidays: Fiestas nacionales. When combined with a week-
end we call them: Puentes.
- Christmas and New Year: Navidad y Año Nuevo.
- Local church festivities: Las festividades de la iglesia local.
- Death´s day: Día de los muertos.
- Mother and Father´s day: Día de las Madres y Día del Padre.
- Ash Wednesday: Miércoles de ceniza.
- School parties: Kermesse.
- Family Conventions: Convenciones familiares.
We are going to explain the meaning of these celebrations during the
course. As you can see , there are many fiestas during the year and
it is most likely that you join one when you are here. Zihuatanejo has
a weekly Sunday party at the basketball court. So get ready for fiesta
time!
